Reach Out and Touch Someone

While I usually avoid The Daily Mail (and most British press in general), I haven't seen this story reported anywhere else.

A range of 8,120 feet! Two rounds fired, two tangos down. Apparently they still teach marksmanship fundamentals in the UK.

The truly amazing thing to me is that his weapon, the L115A3, is designed and engineered to be effective at ranges up to 5000 feet. So Cpl. Harrison put both of those shots on target at a range 3000+ feet beyond the stated effective range of his weapon.

Well done, Corporal. Perfect conditions notwithstanding, perhaps a few dozen people in the world could have made that shot.

Insane. I remember a few years back there was a lot of talk here in Canada when a soldier with the Princess Pats set the world record, then someone else on the same team beat the record again in the same month.

As Matt said, it was reported on some of the other milblog sites. That doesn't mean it's not worth recognizing. What surprised me about this whole thing was the second shot. The second guy was located right next to bad guy number one. You'd think that when he got splattered with brains, he'd have hit the dirt. He probably had, what, five seconds or so to do it (2.5 seconds of round travel time, plus however long it took to line up the second shot)? Apparently, though, they didn't teach that particular skill in Taliban basic training. I suspect that this particular shooter will never have to buy his own beer again.

Paul-

I suspect that second Taliban was probably just sitting there with a puzzled look on his face, trying to figure out why his buddy's brains were splashed all over his man-jammies. Since he's Taliban and therefore rather dim, it took about five seconds for reality to slowly set in. He was probably just opening his mouth, "Oh fu....." when the second round took his head off.
